Bio

I specialise in sculpture exploring an imagined evolution of the body into the distant future. Natural selection as the driving force of evolution is being replaced by intelligent design. My work explores posthumanism and imagines what the long-term effects of the combination of organic and inorganic matter might be to the human body. At what point will what we define as human cease to exist? The idea of the body and technology merging is uncomfortable and scary to me, I use my work to explore this feeling through uncanny forms that become their own beings, having transcended to a new level of consciousness, they are alien to our current idea of the body.

In my studio based practice, my methodology is material guided and utilises making as research. Clay and textiles are my preferred mediums. Clay grounds the connection between the body and the earth as a contrast to the disconnection of body and self through technology. Textiles have a unique relationship with the body as cloth is universally used to make clothing and soft furnishings, making textiles a material which our skin is often in contact with.

I have a Masters in Fine Art with Merit and BA Fine Art with First Class honours from Arts University Plymouth. I have exhibited work in the UK and Hong Kong.
