Leah Jordan’s practice explores the hidden architectures of the human body, using anatomy as the starting point for speculative sculpture. Fascinated by the internal body as a machine with unfathomable working parts, Jordan celebrates the extraordinary functionality that sustains life beyond conscious awareness. Each body of work focuses on a different internal system, drawing hidden anatomy out of the body and into physical space, where it can be viewed as sculpture in its own right.

In her studio based practice, Jordan begins with drawing informed by anatomical studies, forms are then repeatedly translated between two and three dimensions, with something becoming lost at each stage. Through this process of reduction forms gradually shift away from representation, allowing familiar biological structures to become increasingly abstract.

By bringing hidden anatomical structures beyond the confines of the body, Jordan invites closer attention to the remarkable systems that quietly sustain us. Her sculptures explore the threshold between the seen and the unseen, and the conscious and the unconscious. As anatomical forms are simplified and reimagined, they begin to question where biological structures end and sculptural invention begins, inviting viewers to reconsider the hidden complexity of the body and the way we perceive it.
